Balkan Bump
Balkan Bump is the global electronic music project of Oakland-based trumpet player, producer, and ethnomusicologist Will Magid. With a degree in ethnomusicology from UCLA, Magid fuses heavy electronic production with traditional Balkan brass melodies, Middle Eastern sounds, and American hip-hop, creating what’s been dubbed “future balkan” and “electronic funk.” His debut single “Aymo” with Gramatik and Talib Kweli launched the project in 2017, gaining widespread recognition after being featured in Porsche’s 2020 Super Bowl ad.
Balkan Bump has performed at major festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lightning in a Bottle, and Electric Forest, with multiple appearances at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. His live show ranges from solo performances to a 12-piece ensemble featuring sitar, saz, oud, clarinet, and trumpet. Collaborations with CloZee, Beats Antique, Manic Focus, and The Gift of Gab have cemented his place in the electronic music scene while earning features in Billboard, NPR, and The San Francisco Chronicle.
